Chaque tête CR-N400 s'appuie sur un capteur CMOS 1/2,3 pouce associé au processeur DIGIC DV7, avec un enregistrement 4K UHD jusqu'à 59,94p en 4:2:2 10 bits. La chaîne HDR couvre Canon Log 3, PQ et HLG, et l'optique lumineuse f/1,8–2,8 propose un zoom optique 20x prolongé en portée étendue 40x en Full HD — l'équivalent d'environ 1202 mm en 35 mm, de quoi cadrer serré depuis le fond d'une salle de concert, d'un gymnase ou d'un amphithéâtre.
