ARRI ARRIMAX 18/12 EB MAX Set couples the flagship open-face HMI daylight head with the EB MAX 12/18 ballast for crews who need one source that reads as a controllable “sun” on exterior nights, large interiors, stages and live-event keying. The facetted reflector uses lens-less MAX Technology: focus is continuous and cuttable, with a 15°–50° beam from the standard reflector. An optional spot reflector narrows coverage to 8°–15° for long throws; because the optical system avoids spread lenses, edges stay sharp for flags and cutters.

The lamphead accepts 12,000 W or 18,000 W single-ended metal-halide lamps and supports both GX38 / GX51 bases, keeping relamping logistics straightforward across mixed inventories. Correlated colour temperature sits around 5,600 K for camera-balanced daylight, the specified voltage range is 160–225 V (lamp-power dependent), and the housing carries an IP23 rating for demanding locations. Via ARRI ballast control, output trims from 50–100% help match exposure, and the fixture is rated as suitable for high-frame-rate imagery.

The included EB MAX 12/18 ballast targets set reliability and integration: ALF line filtering, DMX control compatibility and AutoScan support for stable operation when generators, distribution and mixed loads share the same power environment. This configuration fits high-output backlight on wide shots, long-throw highlights, daylight simulation through windows, chroma and virtual-production backgrounds, and broadcast stages where a single hard source must stay consistent across cues.

As a matched kit, the set includes the ARRIMAX 18/12 lamphead with 4-leaf barndoor, ballast and head-to-ballast cabling, so gaffers can land power, focus, cut and cue rapidly. Compatibility with the motorised yoke BigBee supports remote pan/tilt workflows, while the VEAM interface aligns with established ARRI daylight infrastructure from truck pack to rental prep.

Lens-less system with MAX Technology - The Academy Awardwinning ARRIMAX remains the ultimate choice for productions requiring maximum light output. The 580 mm (22.8”) diameter, parabolic facetted reflector provides continuous focus adjustment from 15° to 50° beam angle and, since the ARRIMAX does not require a set of spread lenses, shadows are sharp and easily cut.

Safe and easy for both lamp type bases - 18 kW and 12 kW. 18,000 W single ended lamps use a sturdier GX51 lamp base for which ARRI engineers have designed a special lampholder that alleviates mechanical stress from the lamp pins, now serving only as an electrical connection. The lamp clamping mechanism is self-aligning and uses a rugged, recessed lamp lock handle. To ensure that crews can easily use 12,000 W lamps or versions of 18,000 W single ended lamps with G38 bases, the new lampholder accepts either lamp type with no modification or adjustment.

The ARRIMAX 18/12 has a unique proven track record in numerous major feature film productions worldwide. Operated with the EB MAX 18/12 even worriless shootings for SFX, VFX, commercials, sports industrial applications, automotive component testing, ballistics or material testing are feasable.

The AutoScan technology supplies the lamp with a greatly raised 1,000 Hz square wave current and makes it easy to achieve high quality flicker free images even at frame rates of 1,000 fps and in many cases beyond even with a single source. Going along with the enormous light output the ARRIMAX 18/12 is part of an optimized lighting system in conjunction with the latest generation of electronic ballast and the specifically designed accessories, providing both versatility and maximum quality unreached.
