Defy storage limitations with the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual 8TB RAID system. Housing two 4TB SATA SSDs, it provides RAID 0/1 flexibility and...
Four NVMe blades behind one U.2 connector — that is the whole idea of the OWC U2 Shuttle 32TB. The carrier holds four 8 TB M.2 2280 modules and slides into any 3.5-inch bay with NVMe U.2 support, so a full day of multicam rushes moves between set and post house as one lockable unit. Instead of couriering a complete enclosure, the DIT ships the aluminium sled alone; two keys secure the drives against unnoticed removal in transit.
RAID stays in software, which keeps configuration open: SoftRAID assembles RAID 0, 1, 4, 5 or 1+0 sets as well as JBOD on macOS and Windows, and its monitoring warns before a blade starts degrading. A four-module stripe carries 8K ProRes timelines without dropped frames, while RAID 5 keeps a day of camera negatives readable even after a single module fails. Under macOS, independent volumes on the shuttle remain bootable — practical for mobile grading stations that travel with their entire system environment.
Throughput depends on the host. A direct PCIe 3.0 x4 link (NVMe 1.3, ASMedia switch chip) allows a theoretical 3,940 MB/s; in Thunderbolt hosts such as the OWC ThunderBay Flex 8 (upper four bays), the 1U rackmount Flex 1U4 or a Mercury Helios 3S with U.2 NVMe Interchange System, about 2,750 MB/s remain available — sufficient for editing and colour work straight from the shuttle. Bus power removes the need for a separate supply in server rooms and OB vans.
The factory-fitted blades from OWC's Aura series pair TLC 3D NAND with SLC caching and over-provisioning, a combination aimed at sustained write loads rather than short bursts. One practical detail: modules with glued-on heatsinks do not fit the sled. With 32 TB of raw capacity, TAA compliance for public and broadcast tenders, and swap times measured in seconds, this U.2 carrier shuttle works as removable project storage that follows the production instead of binding it to a single machine.

World’s first U.2 carrier shuttle for 3.5-inch drive bays that combines up to four NVMe M.2 SSDs into a swappable, RAID-ready storage solution.
Innovation Meets Versatility
- Configurable: choose from preconfigured solutions or add your own NVMe M.2 2280 SSDs
- RAID-Ready: RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, or 1+0 (10) gives you speed, protection, or the best of both attributes
- Broad Compatibility: use with OWC Mercury Helios 3S equipped with U.2 NVMe Interchange System, OWC ThunderBay Flex 8, and OWC Flex 1U4, as well as any computer with NVMe U.2 support and an available 3.5-inch drive bay
- Easy swaps: move between OWC U.2 devices, as well as PCs, enclosures, and servers
- Media workflows: dramatically lowers production-to-lab shipping larger, heavier drives
- Secure: key lock for data security compliance
Boldly Goes Where No Drive Has Gone Before
The OWC U2 Shuttle is everything you've wanted in a multiple blade SSD but couldn't get until now. It is the world's first U.2 carrier shuttle for 3.5-inch drive bays that combines four NVMe M.2 SSDs. Built for OWC storage and PCIe expansion solutions, this innovative carrier shuttle can also be used with U.2 port-equipped PCs and servers.
More RAID Options
With four NVMe SSDs, the OWC U2 Shuttle gives you more RAID options than a dual drive enclosure or adapter card. Now you can harness the power of RAID 0, 1, 4, 5 or 1+0 (10) via your choice of RAID utilities — including SoftRAID, the easiest to use, most fully featured software RAID package available. This powerful and intuitive software offers maximum volume capacity, optimum drive performance, data protection, or a combination of attributes. Ideal for anyone who needs to safely store and backup massive amounts of data, such as video editors, audio producers, photographers and graphic designers.
Ideal for Media Production
Imagine... no more tedious and time-consuming drive enclosure disassembly. No more costly fees to ship an entire enclosure just to get a day’s shoot to post-production. By utilizing a U.2 port equipped OWC solution or a PC with an available 3.5-inch drive bay on both ends, you can simply ship the shuttle to the post lab where it swaps in quickly and economically. Compact and lightweight for easy travel!
NVMe Server Ready
When your resource-heavy server application has to complete thousands of operations per second, the OWC U2 Shuttle preconfigured with OWC Aura Ultra III Pro SSDs, has the chops to keep up. This little number’s high-performance, Triple-Level Cell (TLC) 3D NAND with SLC caching and its Phison E12 controller with 7% over-provisioning ensure fast and smooth access to large volumes of data. From running double checks on data and correcting errors, to ensuring the uniform use of its flash media, Aura Ultra III equipped U2 Shuttles are optimized for the best and longest working life.
A Complete Swap and Share Ecosystem
When you need to move data outside or beyond the local network, U2 Shuttle helps you go with the flow. Thanks to the OWC U.2 ecosystem, moving and sharing data with U2 Shuttle is fast and easy. Swap out and ship a project from field to post in video production workflows. Move backup data to an offline colocation for backup workflows. The combination of U2 Shuttle and the OWC U.2 ecosystem opens a new dimension to data transfer possibilities.
