ARRI M18 is an 1,800 W HMI open-face lamphead combining the True Blue chassis with lens-less MAX reflector optics (facetted reflector made from high-purity aluminium). The lamphead supports 1.2 kW and 1.8 kW metal-halide SE lamps on a G38 base, so the same head can be paired with compatible ballasts across both power classes. It is a compact daylight source for exterior key, window “sun” hits, and long-throw backlight in film, television, and multi-camera streaming.

The beam is continuously focusable from 15° to 58° without swapping spread lenses, enabling fast transitions between tight punch and broad coverage. Typical photometrics with an 1.8 kW lamp underline the range: at 10 m the head reaches 11,250 lx in spot (15°) over Ø 2.6 m, 2,120 lx in medium (40°) over Ø 6.8 m, or 1,100 lx in flood (58°) over Ø 9.7 m. At 15 m, spot still reaches 5,000 lx over Ø 3.9 m, keeping punch when fixtures are placed on high grids, condors, or perimeter truss.

For rental fleets and permanent grids, the housing is specified IP23 and the True Blue Cross-Cooling system maintains airflow at any tilt angle. Integrated CCL (cable-loss compensation) helps maintain full lamp power over head-to-ballast runs up to 100 m. The head shares established ARRISUN 12 accessories and cabling, the stainless friction-disc tilt lock holds heavy softboxes securely, and optional frosted glass smooths the field for interview keys or cyc work. When needed, an ARRISUN-style conversion kit can enable lens operation for beam spreads from 6° to 65°.

Electrical planning stays practical: ARRI specifies current draw under 13 A at 230 V (or 20 A at 120 V), enabling operation from many standard circuits when a generator is undesirable. With ARRI electronic ballasts the M18 supports high frame rate shooting and dimming typically from 50–100%; with a DMX/RDM-capable ballast it integrates into console cueing for broadcast and stage lighting control.

    M-Series M18 with MAX Technology
The M18 is an 1,800 W open-face lamphead, combining the innovative True Blue desing with the Academy Scientific and Engineering Awardwinning lens-less optical technology of the ARRIMAX. The result is an extremely powerful lamphead, as small as a 1,200 W PAR lamphead but with a 70 % higher light output. The M-Series M18 fixture is adjustable from 15° to 58° without requiring spread lenses.

The use of an 1,800 W lamp is made possible by the patented True Blue Cross-Cooling system, which maintains airflow at any tilt angle. This keeps all parts of the fixture within safe working limits.

The M18 uses the same accessories and cables as the ARRISUN 12; it can even be used with an 1,200 W lamp an powered by either any ARRI ballast supporting 1,200 W power class. Using the M-Series M18 with ARRI electronic ballasts ensures maximum output and no decreased color rendition even at high frame rates. The included CCL (Compensation of Cable Losses) system maintains full power to the lamp even when using Head-to-Ballast cables up to 100 m (330 ft) length.

The M18 innovations include the stainless steel friction disc, which locks the lamphead securely even when using the largest Chimera. An alternative to the separate frame with screens is the frosted glass, which ensures an almost perfect homogeneity of the light field. It is also possible to convert the M18 to lens operation by fitting an ARRISUN style conversion kit and adding ARRISUN 12 or AS 18 lenses, giving a 6° to 65° beam spread. Maintenance and repairs are easier with fast, simple access to all internal components. The M18 is IP23-rated weather resistance and withstands even driven rain.

The 1,800 W power of the M18 is designed to work in offices and domestic situations without the need of a generator. Drawing less than 13 A (230 V~) resp. 20 A (120 V~) it can run on most domestic sockets around the world. It is the perfect daylight fixture to keep in the back of the car.

    Main Features
