On productions where a rig changes between shoulder-style ENG body, zoom lens, matte box and wireless video, the head must balance the package without forcing the operator to fight tilt recoil. The Cartoni Focus 18 (+/- 90°) Video Fluid Head gives mid-size broadcast and cinema cameras a 5–21 kg payload range, continuous counterbalance and a clear numeric reference scale, so a crew can mark repeatable settings for news, documentary, live event capture or studio talk formats.
The head uses a 100 mm bowl for standard ENG tripod legs and Cartoni-compatible pedestal or converter arrangements. Continuous fluid drag on pan and tilt lets the operator set resistance rather than jump between coarse steps, useful for slow presenter follow shots, sports tracking from a fixed camera position or long-lens framing at a press riser. The ±90° tilt range keeps overhead, low-angle and stage-monitor positions within one head, while 360° pan coverage handles conventional studio blocking and event coverage without re-mounting the camera.
A sliding camera plate with Euro-style quick release shortens balancing time when batteries, servo zooms or on-camera monitors change the centre of gravity. Separate pan and tilt brakes, drag selectors and a safety release button give the camera team predictable handling during lens changes or transport between set positions. The orientable telescopic pan bar can be set to match the operator’s stance, and the illuminated bubble level helps level the bowl in dim control-room corners, night exterior work or fast OB setups.
