Among the camera support tools that professional cinematographers rely on, nodal heads hold a special place — and the Cartoni Lambda 10 represents the most compact member of a family that earned a Technical Achievement Award from the Society of Camera Operators. Built in Rome by a company with more than eight decades of experience in professional camera support, this fluid head brings the full feature set of the acclaimed Lambda 50 into a lighter, more transportable package suited to camera rigs weighing up to 10 kg. Since the original Lambda was introduced in 2000, more than a thousand units have found their way onto film sets, tabletop studios, and live-event stages around the world.

At its core, the Cartoni Lambda 10 relies on two patented high-precision fluid modules, each offering three progressive drag settings plus a dedicated zero position that unlocks complete freewheel movement. An operator can switch from silky-smooth, controlled pans during a product shoot to totally unrestricted tilts for rapid repositioning between takes. The L-shaped aluminium geometry with sliding plates enables precise centering of the camera on its nodal point — eliminating parallax as the head pans and tilts, which is essential during VFX compositing and multi-layer green-screen work. Once the centre of gravity is set, the 10 kg payload capacity requires no separate counterbalance mechanism; the camera floats freely across both the pan and tilt axes.

Mounting on any 100 mm bowl tripod or base, the Cartoni Lambda 10 pairs naturally with Cartoni's own SDS, EFP, and Red Lock legs, and it is fully compatible with the Cartoni Jibo jib arm system. Its 360-degree continuous tilt range makes underslung operation straightforward — attach it beneath a jib arm, crane, slider, or dolly and the camera can reach ground level or even below, a technique that tabletop and food-photography crews use daily. The operational temperature window stretches from −40 °C to +60 °C, so outdoor shoots in harsh winter or desert conditions remain feasible. Shipped with a telescopic pan bar, a short pan bar, and a counterweight, the Lambda 10 arrives ready for immediate deployment on set.

The Lambda 10 is the most compact of the Cartoni nodal heads. Its sturdy aluminum tubes “L” shaped geometry with sliding capability allows the perfect centering of the camera.

    • With a capacity of 10 kg (22 lbs) the Lambda 10 does not require a counterbalance system and, once set on the center of gravity (CG) the camera can be moved freely along pan and tilt axis.
    • The movement is assisted by the combination of 2 Cartoni patented high precision fluid modules with 3 different settings in progressive intensity plus the “zero” position for complete freewheel movement.
    • The Lambda 10 has a 100mm bowl base and can be mounted on any 100mm bowl base and ideal for underslung use from Jib arms, cranes, sliders, or dollies making the Lambda 10 a preferred light device for tabletop work or medical documentary.
