Where a conventional pan-and-tilt head stops, this Italian-engineered unit adds a full roll axis, letting camera operators sweep through 360° of pan, tilt, and dutch in one continuous, drag-controlled movement. The third-axis module replaces the standard Lambda 50 camera stage while keeping the same Mitchell/Flat Base interface, so it mounts directly onto tripods, dollies, cranes, or camera cars without any adapters or modification.

Each of the three axes relies on Cartoni's proprietary SFX fluid drag system with 7 selectable steps plus a zero position, giving precise resistance control from completely free spin to heavy dampening. Graduated precision cranks on both the horizontal and vertical slides let operators dial in the nodal point for any camera-and-lens combination, eliminating parallax shift — a decisive advantage during VFX shoots, green-screen compositing, and motion-tracking sessions where even millimetre-level misalignment can ruin a take. An orientable counterweight rod with included weights compensates for off-centre loads when the slide travel alone cannot reach the centre of gravity, keeping rigs balanced even with fully accessorised cinema cameras approaching the 40 kg maximum payload.

Machined from CNC aluminium and free of springs or conventional fluid cartridges, the HL5000/TA maintains consistent drag behaviour regardless of temperature swings — rated for continuous operation between −40 °C and +60 °C. That makes it equally dependable inside a climate-controlled virtual-production stage and strapped to an exterior car-mount rig in freezing conditions. Inverting the mounting into an under-slung position on a crane or jib arm takes moments, dropping the camera line well below the pivot for dramatic low-angle tracking shots.
