At 125mm, the Vespid range moves into telephoto compression rather than neutral coverage, giving cinematographers a tighter visual language for faces, products, stage details and cutaway shots. The DZOFilm Vespid Prime 125mm T2.1 PL Mount (VV/FF) covers Full Frame and VistaVision cameras through a 46.5 mm image circle, so it can be used on large-format cinema bodies without relying on a crop. The T2.1 aperture supports selective focus in interviews, fiction scenes and music work, while the longer focal length separates the subject from busy backgrounds with a calmer perspective than wider primes.

Its optical formula uses 10 elements in 8 groups, matched to a fully manual cinema layout for crews that set focus, iris and filtration deliberately. The aperture range extends from T2.1 to T22, useful for balancing shallow depth of field against controlled exposure on studio lights or daylight exteriors. A 0.79 m close-focus distance from the sensor plane makes the lens practical for tight inserts: hands on a product, a lens barrel detail, jewellery, controls on a camera rig or a portrait framed without moving far back from the talent.

Mechanical control is a central reason to choose this PL version. The focus ring travels 270°, giving the focus puller room for measured moves between marks, and the iris ring uses an 84° throw for repeatable exposure adjustments. Focus and iris rings carry 0.8 Mod gearing, so follow focus units, wireless motors and FIZ controllers can stay attached during set work. A 16-blade iris keeps out-of-focus highlights rounder, helping close-ups, advertising shots and night scenes retain a polished but not clinical character.

The PL Mount configuration of the Vespid Prime 125mm T2.1 fits professional large-format cameras and lens-control setups where repeatable manual operation matters more than camera-side automation. There is no autofocus or optical stabilisation to mask operating errors; focus, iris and camera support remain the crew’s responsibility. For a Vespid Prime set, this focal length adds reach for compressed close-ups, isolating details in multicamera studio production, narrative coverage, documentary interviews and commercial tabletop filming, with a visual character that can sit alongside the wider lenses in the same series.
