A 21 mm cine prime earns its place on set by giving space and geometry without forcing a full-frame camera into a bulky lens package. The DZOFilm Vespid Prime 21mm T2.1 PL Mount (VV/FF) covers Vista Vision and full-frame sensors with a 46.5 mm image circle, so it can be paired with large-format bodies for establishing shots, interior scenes, handheld dialogue or gimbal movement where a wide view must still feel controlled. The T2.1 maximum aperture keeps exposure usable in available light and gives subject separation for close work in cramped rooms.

The optical layout uses 13 elements in 9 groups, with the Vespid rendering known for clean detail, restrained contrast and a transition from focus to defocus that stays cinematic rather than clinical. Its wide focal length is useful for architecture, vehicles, location walk-throughs, studio sets, documentary coverage and product films where context around the subject matters. The 16-blade iris helps keep out-of-focus highlights rounded, while the T2.1 to T22 aperture range gives the operator room to balance depth of field, lighting level and exposure consistency across a shot list.

Mechanical control is fully manual, a practical point for crews using follow focus units, wireless lens motors or repeatable marks. The 270° focus rotation allows measured pulls from near detail to background action, and the 68° iris rotation supports controlled exposure changes. Close focus reaches 0.28 m from the sensor plane, useful for foreground elements, tabletop inserts or wide close-ups with spatial depth. Standard 0.8 Mod cine gearing on focus and iris rings lets the lens integrate with common rigging used on PL-mount cinema cameras.

On multi-lens Vespid sets, shared cine mechanics help reduce accessory repositioning between focal lengths, valuable on commercial days, documentary travel kits or small crews working with stabilisers. The PL mount gives secure cinema-camera coupling, while the series’ rear magnetic filter concept supports creative or exposure filtration without moving the front rig. For professional buyers, the DZOFilm Vespid Prime 21mm T2.1 PL Mount (VV/FF) is a credible wide-angle choice for productions needing repeatable manual control, full-frame coverage and a natural look across mixed shooting conditions.
