Several 50 mm lenses now carry the Vespid name, and they answer different briefs. The Cyber version adds a data port for DJI's LiDAR focusing and lens metadata; the Vespid2 opens to T1.9 and transmits Cooke /i data. The DZOFilm Vespid Prime 50mm T2.1 PL Mount + EF (VV/FF) is the original, purely mechanical full-frame cine prime: nothing in its barrel draws power or needs a software update. It arrives as a PL-mount cine lens with the EF mount included. After a swap, shims bring the flange depth back to 52 mm (PL) or 44 mm (EF), and Octopus adapters reach Sony E, Canon RF, L-Mount and Fujifilm X bodies.

Its 46.5 mm image circle fills full-frame and VistaVision sensors edge to edge. On a Canon EOS C400 with an Octopus RF adapter, this 50 mm gives dialogue scenes the unexaggerated perspective they depend on: a medium close-up across a restaurant table, the over-the-shoulder in a two-hander, a chef's hands plating under a soft key. Mounted on Super 35, it frames roughly like a 70–75 mm on full frame, a tighter portrait angle for a talk-show B-camera or a seated documentary interview.

Nine elements in seven groups follow the series' APO-corrected formula. Detail is crisp without turning clinical, colour stays neutral for the grade, and faces look natural rather than etched. Breathing barely registers: a focus pull from a speaker at the lectern to the brand mark on the backdrop leaves the framing steady. Sixteen iris blades turn background practicals into even, round discs, wide open or stopped to T4.

Focus travels through 270°, leaving the first AC wide gaps between marks on a slow push-in. The iris covers T2.1–T22 in a compact 58° arc, quick to ride by hand as a subject walks from shade into sun. Both 0.8 MOD gears sit where they do on every other Vespid Prime, and the 80 mm front with M77 thread keeps one matte box and one filter kit across the set. Close focus is 0.46 m from the sensor plane, enough for a cosmetics jar or a barista's hands at the espresso machine; tighter inserts call for the Vespid 90 mm Macro. Fashion films, skincare campaigns and music-video performances are natural territory, and the footage intercuts with any other Vespid Prime.
