Every focal length in DZOFilm's Vespid Prime line wears dual metric and imperial focus marks, with one exception. The DZOFilm Vespid Prime Macro 90mm T2.8 PL Mount + EF (VV/FF) is built in separate imperial and metric versions, and this one is engraved in metres, matching the units on the camera report. It is also the only true macro in the series: focus reaches 0.258 m from the sensor plane, where DZOFilm specifies 1.5× magnification, larger than life size. A 46.5 mm image circle covers full frame and VistaVision.

Magnification enlarges colour fringes along with the subject, so the APO correction across eleven elements in nine groups earns its keep. Owner feedback adds crisp detail from T2.8 and colour that cuts cleanly with the other Vespids. That suits the shots that sell a product: mascara bristles separating lashes, condensation running down a chilled can, solder joints on a circuit board, the weave of a wool coat. Away from minimum focus it doubles as a compact 90 mm portrait and interview lens. Put it on an ARRI ALEXA Mini and the Super 35 crop makes it the equivalent of a 120–130 mm on full frame.

The interchangeable PL/EF mount leaves the factory in PL, with the EF part in the box. DZOFilm recommends 0.4 Nm of torque on the mount screws during a swap; through Octopus adapters it also fits mirrorless cinema bodies in E, RF, L-Mount and X. Like most of its siblings it has an 80 mm front, an M77 filter thread and 0.8 MOD gears, so matte box and motors stay on the rods.

Macro leaves no slack. Near minimum focus at T2.8, acceptable sharpness is well under half a millimetre deep, which explains the 300° focus rotation, 30° longer than on the other Vespid Primes. For the tightest inserts, many crews lock the ring and creep the camera forward on a focusing rail. With the front element around 10 cm from the subject, light comes from the sides or through diffusion, and every stop gained on the 68° iris ring toward T22 costs output. It is just under a stop slower than the T2.1 Vespids, so working at T2.8 or deeper keeps exposure steady across lens changes. One full-frame macro cine lens then handles both the insert day and the portrait close-ups.
