A camera operator judges a fibre link by what arrives in the headset, not by the picture reaching the gallery. Paired with a Blackmagic ATEM Camera Converter, the FieldCast 2Core SM Ultra Light 100m gives each direction a core of its own. One strand sends the camera's image and mic audio towards the switcher; the other brings back the programme feed for the viewfinder, the director's talkback embedded on audio channels 15 and 16, and the tally that confirms the shot is on air.

The fibre optic cable itself is kept simple. Within the Ultra Light jacket, FieldCast's grade for studios, film sets and similar interiors, run two protected cores of single mode 9/125 glass, and every connector wears the two yellow rings of the brand's 2Core single mode code. Plug A and plug B are the same male FieldCast 2Core SM connector. A threaded cap covers each end between bookings; capped or mated, the interface is dust-tight and survives temporary immersion, which is IP67 as EN 60529 defines it. The drum is a braked Schill GT310 in oil-resistant solid rubber, with a bend-resistant cable exit. Should a position sit beyond one drum, the half-metre coupler, built heavy duty, links a second.

At the switcher end, an ATEM Studio Converter takes the same pair and sends programme, talkback and tally back down each channel, and FieldCast's Panel One seats four drums in front of it. Other single mode gear with LC ports, such as an ATEM Talkback Converter 4K, a 12G-SDI link on 1310 nm SFPs or a network switch, connects through a 2 m adapter cable to LC or a D-format chassis connector in a 19-inch panel. At the camera, Adapter One mounts on the converter and guards its LC interface.

Tally deserves more credit than it gets: an operator who cannot see the red light will reframe, refocus or whip-pan while the shot is live, and every viewer sees it. Think of a darts championship whose oche camera answers to a production room behind the tiered seating, a gymnastics final with a roving floor camera, or a talent show cut in a gallery built into a former green room. All three live on cues, and this drum carries them back to every position.
