A take may be complete, yet its most exposed stage can still lie ahead: the hand-off from camera to DIT station. Kinefinity KineMAG Nano 2TB combines a 2 TB NVMe M.2 2280 SSD with Kinefinity’s dedicated camera cartridge, supplying the bandwidth required by high-resolution, high-frame-rate capture. It fits MAVO Edge 8K, MAVO Edge 6K, MAVO mark2 LF and MAVO mark2 S35, so a production company can standardise one recording medium across several Kinefinity bodies.

Data protection is handled differently from an ordinary removable SSD. Through its read-only USB-C access, recorded clips can be copied to a computer but cannot be changed, erased or formatted from that connection; writing and formatting stay under camera control. This reduces the risk of a mistaken deletion during ingest. Kinefinity also uses a RAID 5-derived parity scheme: if NAND page data is read incorrectly, remaining data and parity information can reconstruct the affected data. The process is automatic inside the medium rather than a desktop RAID array that the operator must configure.

A rugged camera connector links the cartridge to the camera’s PCIe 3.0 media interface, while a USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port transfers files directly to a workstation at up to 10 Gb/s. Files reach the workstation without an intervening reader, leaving one less component in the DIT kit. A heat-dissipating plate conducts thermal load away from the NVMe SSD during sustained, high-data-rate recording. Reaching the stated transfer ceiling requires a 10 Gb/s-capable host and USB-C cable; real copy speed also depends on the receiving drive.

For long interviews, documentary coverage, commercial sets or scripted scenes, 2 TB means fewer media changes and less handling between takes. On dual-slot MAVO Edge bodies, a pair of KineMAG Nano media can support backup or relay recording; MAVO mark2 uses one KineMAG Nano slot. This makes the 2 TB version useful both for protecting an irreplaceable master and for maintaining a longer uninterrupted recording session. Actual duration varies with resolution, frame rate and codec, so media planning should follow the selected camera format rather than a single headline estimate.
