Laowa Proteus Flex 28 mm T2 2× Anamorphic S35 PL / EF brings a genuine widescreen aesthetic to modern production. The constant 2× squeeze projects 2.66 : 1 on 4 : 3 or 2.4 : 1 on 6 : 5 sensors without “mumps”, yielding clean oval bokeh and pronounced horizontal flare. A neutral silver flare module is pre-installed and can be swapped for blue, amber or clear options on set.

Optically the lens employs 17 elements in 15 groups with low-dispersion glass, retaining high MTF at T2 while suppressing chromatic shift. The ten-blade iris closes to T22 and preserves round highlights. Focus breathing is negligible and distortion stays under 1 %, keeping framing rock-solid for VFX plates and multicam broadcast. The image circle covers 25.9 mm (Super 35+) and, with the optional 1.4× optical extender, fills full-frame sensors.

Mechanically the housing meets strict cine standards. 0.8 MOD gears and a 300° focus throw permit hair-line pulls; gear positions are unified across the Proteus line, shrinking rig time. A 114 mm front suits clip-on matte boxes, while a 105 mm filter thread handles screw-ins when weight is critical. Length is 182.8 mm, mass 2.4 kg, ideal for gimbals, drones or studio heads. Minimum focus reaches 48 cm, unlocking tight anamorphic close-ups without diopters.

Interchangeable ARRI PL and Canon EF mounts ship in the box, each shim-adjustable for precise flange depth. Internal focusing keeps the centre of gravity steady and supports remote motors in confined builds. The 28 mm resolves the ARRI ALEXA 35 at 4.6 K 4 : 3 and the RED V-RAPTOR at 7 K 6 : 5 ANA with full coverage, giving commercial, streaming and virtual-production teams a robust, future-proof anamorphic prime for EU-wide workflows.
