Magewell Eco Capture HDMI 4K M.2 is a single-channel HDMI capture card for embedded and space-limited systems that still need dependable ingest quality. It connects through M.2 2280 Type M over PCIe Gen2 x4, which makes it a practical choice for compact production PCs, rack computers, portable flypacks, vision appliances, conference processors and custom streaming platforms where there is no room for a full-height card. The unit accepts one HDMI signal with embedded audio and supports input resolutions up to 4096×2160, so it fits DCI 4K, UHD and HD integration scenarios in broadcast, live events, lecture capture and corporate AV.
What matters in daily operation is not only resolution, but signal discipline. This card automatically detects the incoming format, handles color format conversion, scaling, de-interlacing and frame-rate conversion, and supports RGB and YCbCr colour spaces including 601, 709 and 2020. Capture formats include 4:2:0, 4:2:2 and 4:4:4 8-bit, which gives system builders and software teams more freedom when matching ingest quality to codec, CPU load and archive targets. In practice, that means clean acquisition from PTZ cameras, mirrorless cameras, media players, presentation systems or stage processors without forcing unnecessary external conversion.
The Eco Capture HDMI 4K M.2 also suits installations that need determinism and low delay. Magewell specifies low-latency mode, SG-DMA transmission, hardware-based timestamping and synchronized clock options via SDK, all useful in multi-source recording, machine vision adjacent video tasks, operator review stations, replay buffers or synchronized lecture and training capture. Support for Sony/Canon DSLR time code extraction, customized EDID and 3D HDMI modes adds value in specialist ingest environments where signal negotiation can become the weak point.
For integrators and software-driven deployments, the card supports multiple boards in one host, replicated capture streams from one input, and broad compatibility with Windows and Linux tools such as OBS, vMix, Wirecast and other DirectShow or V4L2 software.
