The Magewell Ultra Encode HDMI Plus Modator Module brings high-density 4K encoding to rack-based broadcast and streaming environments. This hot-swappable encoder card slots directly into the Magewell Modator 2U chassis, which holds up to ten modules in a single 2U rack frame — a configuration well suited to master control rooms, mobile production trucks, and large-scale live event setups where multiple HDMI sources require simultaneous encoding.

Each module accepts HDMI signals up to 4096×2160 at 30 fps in 4:4:4/4:2:2 colour space, or up to 60 fps in 4:2:0. A dedicated HDMI loop-through passes the incoming feed to downstream monitoring or switching gear without signal loss. Audio capture covers eight channels of 24-bit embedded HDMI audio, supplemented by a 3.5 mm analog line input for external microphones or mixers. The encoder handles both H.264 and H.265 (HEVC) compression with dual-stream output — main and sub stream running concurrently at resolutions up to 4096×2160p30, with bitrates reaching 62 Mbps over NDI HX3 or 32 Mbps through other delivery paths.

Protocol support spans RTMP, RTMPS, SRT (Caller and Listener), RTSP, HLS, TS over UDP/RTP, NDI HX2, NDI HX3, TVU ISSP, and ZIXI. Up to six streaming sessions run in parallel — enough to feed a CDN, a social media platform, and an internal NDI production network from one source at the same time. Built-in recording saves the main or sub stream to USB storage, SD card, or NAS, with automatic file upload to FTP, Google Drive, or Dropbox. Eight schedule slots per session enable timed recordings and stream starts, which proves handy for unattended house-of-worship broadcasts, recurring corporate webcasts, or campus TV playout.

Eight overlay layers per stream allow on-screen graphics such as logos, lower thirds, or timecodes, while NDI tally lights give real-time program (red) and preview (green) feedback during live production. Configuration runs through a browser-based interface reachable from any device on the network, and Magewell Control Hub provides centralized management of every module across a facility. An HTTP-based API lets integrators tie the module into third-party automation and control systems.
