One Cat 6 run can carry everything a live camera needs: the programme feed, power, control data and tally. That is the operating logic of the Z-CAM E2N, a boxed 4K NDI|HX3 camera that brings interchangeable-lens imaging into IP production. Fed by PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) straight from the switch, it appears in vMix, TriCaster or any NDI-aware mixer moments after the plug clicks in, tally return included.

Behind the Micro Four Thirds mount with Active Lock sits a 4/3" CMOS sensor: 10.71 effective megapixels, dual native ISO at 500 and 2500, and 11.5 stops of dynamic range. UHD leaves the sensor at up to 60 fps; Full HD reaches 240 fps for replay work. Against a typical PTZ head, the freedom of glass pays off quickly — shallow depth of field for interview frames, fast primes once conference-room light gets thin. Sensitivity spans ISO 500 to 102400, and Rec.709 sits next to Concert and Vivi picture profiles — a practical match for saturated stage lighting.

Distribution runs on H.265 or H.264, and the camera streams over NDI and SSP at the same time, so the clean feed reaches the switcher while a second encode lands on a recorder or a monitoring desk. An SDXC slot (U3 media recommended for 4K) keeps ISO material in MOV or MP4; HDMI 2.0 carries up to 4K60 to an external recorder or a control-room monitor. Timecode follows the internal clock or a manual entry, which keeps multi-source edits tidy. Operators pick their control layer: web interface, open API for integrators, iOS and Android apps, Gigabit Ethernet or 802.11ac Wi-Fi with an external antenna port. LP-E6-series batteries keep it rolling between mains points.

For production companies standardising a multi-camera fleet — lecture capture, e-sports stages, town-hall streams, OB racks — one technician can shade several Z-CAM E2N units from a browser. Before a rollout, our team helps size the switch, calculate PoE+ budgets and match lens packages to each room.
