A close-up can hold an actor's expression while leaving room between the camera and the performance. The DZOFilm Arles Zoom 65-180mm T2.6 PL Mount brings a 2.8x telephoto range to Full Frame cinema cameras, supporting dialogue scenes, interview portraits and distant details in documentary footage. Its maximum aperture stays at T2.6 throughout the zoom range, so tightening the shot does not force an aperture change. Stopping down to T22 gives control over how much of the scene remains sharp.

The parfocal optical system preserves focus during a zoom, allowing a rehearsed change of framing to become part of the take. Restrained focus breathing helps a rack focus read as a shift in attention, with little change in image scale. Within the 20-element, 8-group construction, ED and HRI glass limit optical aberrations. The 16-blade iris softens the transition into defocused backgrounds, while the warm Arles colour rendering supports sequences combining this zoom with Arles prime lenses.

For a product insert or a closer portrait, the lens focuses down to 0.89 m from the sensor plane. Metric distance markings and a 270° focus throw give the assistant space to place and repeat precise marks. Zoom travel is 100°; the iris rotates through 82.4°. Focus, focal length and aperture all remain manual, with 0.8 MOD gearing for compatible lens motors and follow-focus controls. This lets the crew coordinate a zoom and a focus pull from separate controls.

A PL mount is supplied fitted, with conversion to EF available through an optional replacement mount. The M86 thread accepts screw-in ND filters to retain a wider aperture outdoors, or diffusion for a chosen highlight treatment. Matching focus and iris gear positions across the Arles family help keep motor placement consistent between lens changes. Alongside the separately available 25-75mm Arles Zoom, this telephoto covers the longer angles of a two-lens set reaching from 25 to 180 mm.
