Each zoom in the DZOFilm Catta Ace Zoom 3-Lens Kit (18-35/35-80/70-135 T2.9) Black PL & EF Mount changes bayonet at the prep bench, not at a service centre. PL comes fitted, EF bayonets and shims are supplied, and an optional LPL bayonet suits ARRI's large-format bodies. Canon's EOS C700 FF, whose EF and PL versions swap only via Canon service, takes the kit either way, and its DCI 4K area (38.1 × 20.1 mm, 43.1 mm diagonal) fits even the 18-35's circle.
Coverage differs inside the set. The 35-80 and 70-135 project a 46.5 mm image circle that spans VistaVision; the 18-35 stops at 43.5 mm, true full frame. On an ALEXA LF in open gate, 44.7 mm across, the wide zoom needs a smaller format such as LF 16:9; the longer two fill the sensor. All three hold T2.9 across ratios of 1.9x, 2.3x and 1.9x, closing to T22 over 77°, 75° and 80° of iris travel: about 13° per stop for a lens motor. Four ED elements and one asphere sit among the 18-35's 20 elements in 14 groups; the others use 20 in 15 and 17 in 11.
Take a brand film in a crystal glassworks. From 6 m away, the 18 mm end takes in about 12 m of hot shop, furnace included. Being parfocal, the 35-80 can push from the team to one master glassblower during a take, and with breathing held back, image scale holds through a rack from his face to the molten glass. The 70-135 frames hands at work from behind the safety rail. Out-of-focus glow from the furnace mouth stays circular, courtesy of a 16-blade iris. For product inserts, DZOFilm's manual lists 0.146x at 80 mm and 0.74 m: a cut-crystal tumbler then sits in a frame about 25 cm wide on full frame.
Focus turns 270° and zoom 100° on every barrel, with 0.8 MOD gears at matching positions, an 80 mm front and an M77 thread, so motors and matte box need no repositioning between lenses. Each aluminium-alloy housing has ten M3 accessory holes. In PL, magnetic KOOP rear filters (UV, ND4, ND8, ND16) attach behind the last element. The EF kit and shims are shared with DZOFilm's Vespid primes. No contacts, so no lens data. One hard case with custom-cut foam holds all three: a production company sends a single item to PL, EF or LPL jobs and covers 18 to 135 mm at one stop.
