DZOFilm Catta Zoom 18-35mm T2.9 White Sony E Mount (FF)

White was the only finish at the Catta Zoom line's November 2021 launch, and the DZOFilm Catta Zoom 18-35mm T2.9 White Sony E Mount carries that original livery onto the range's wide-angle model, added in January 2023. Under the pale shell sits the same optical formula as the black edition: 20 elements in 14 groups that project a 43.5 mm image circle, so this full-frame cine zoom holds T2.9 across its 1.9x range and closes to T22.

On a summer race weekend shot for a team's channels, 18 mm shows the entire pit garage, and a zoom to 35 mm settles on the crew chief while focus holds. The lens is parfocal, provided the shim pack has matched it to the camera's flange distance. Focus breathing is slight, so a rack from a mechanic to the car behind him barely changes image size. Focusing down to 0.51 m, measured from the sensor plane, brings a wheel nut or a steering-wheel display right into the foreground. In the paddock, a white barrel also heats up less in direct sun than a black one.

Each of the three rings is toothed at 0.8 MOD, turning through 270° for focus, 100° for zoom and 77° for the iris; focus and zoom travel match the Catta 35-80 and 70-135. With 16 iris blades, out-of-focus headlights and LED signage keep a smooth, round outline. The rear filter tray accepts optional Catta COIN filters: NDs worth two, three or four stops, Black Mist in 1/4 and 1/8 grades, and streak or star effects, all nano-coated on both faces. A gimbal or car-mount build can therefore skip the matte box, while on a studio rig the 80 mm front still suits a clamp-on one and the M77 thread a screw-on ND.

Its polycarbonate shell, reinforced with glass fibre, keeps a Sony FX6 rig comfortable on the shoulder all day. The Sony E mount unlocks with a push-button release and gives way, without tools, to an RF, L, X or Z bayonet sold as an option; DZOFilm's Catta manual notes that shims normally stay as set after such a swap.
