DZOFilm Vespid Prime 16mm T2.8 EF Mount (FF)

At a minimum focus distance of just 0.25 metres from the sensor plane, the DZOFilm Vespid Prime 16mm T2.8 EF Mount lets cinematographers place their camera remarkably close to a subject while maintaining a sweeping ultra-wide perspective across the full-frame sensor. Its 46.5 mm image circle covers Vista Vision and full-frame sensors without vignetting — a natural fit for establishing shots on narrative features, environmental framing in documentaries, and event coverage where spatial context matters. The Canon EF mount fits directly onto EF-based cinema and DSLR bodies, while DZOFILM's Octopus adapter system opens the door to Sony E, Canon RF, Leica L, and other mount standards.

Constructed from 14 optical elements in 10 groups — one aspherical element, three extra-low dispersion (ED) glasses, and four high-resolution elements — the APO optical formula suppresses chromatic aberration across the frame. Colour rendition stays clean even at the extreme edges of the ultra-wide field of view. Multi-layer coatings tame veiling glare and control specular highlights, so shooting against bright skies or stage lighting does not wash out contrast. A 16-blade iris produces smooth, rounded out-of-focus highlights with a distinctly organic character, especially useful during interviews or close-ups where background separation should feel natural.

Mechanically, the lens follows strict cine-standard conventions: a 270° focus throw for precise manual pulls, a 50° iris ring for fine exposure adjustments, and 0.8 mod gears that accept any wireless follow-focus or lens motor. Every Vespid Prime shares the same 80 mm front diameter and identical gear positions, so swapping focal lengths on a multi-camera set requires no matte box or motor repositioning. A magnetically attached rear filter holder accepts optional ND inserts behind the rear element, keeping exposure control independent of depth of field.

Built from aluminium alloy, the housing withstands daily rental rotations and location work yet stays light enough for gimbal rigs, drone platforms, and handheld run-and-gun sequences.
