Cinema probe lenses usually force a choice between looking straight ahead and looking sideways through a periscope. The DZOFilm X-Tract 18-28mm T8 FF Probe Zoom Lens (0°/ 360°) PL Mount skips that decision: one zoom body takes two detachable front modules, a 0° direct-view tube and a 360° rotating periscope. Gears, lens motors and PL mount stay untouched as the front end changes, so one purchase covers two kinds of insert shot. Both project a 43.2 mm full-frame image circle at a constant T8, and the straight tube handles a push into a cereal bowl as milk lands.

The periscope is where this set pays its way. Two silver-coated prisms fold the light path, yet DZOFilm quotes almost 72% relative illumination, only about half a stop of corner falloff, against roughly 55% for typical probes. At the 0° mark the arm travels vertically through tight gaps, like the streets of a sci-fi miniature. Between 0° and 180° it tilts the horizon; at 180° it folds back for barrel rolls.

At 28 mm the lens reaches 2.1:1 magnification with just 6 mm between front glass and subject, 0.47 m from the sensor plane. The frame is then barely wider than a one-cent euro coin, and at T8 depth of field shrinks to about a third of a millimetre; 300° of focus travel gives the puller room to land it. Seven high-index and six ED elements hold distortion within ±2% and breathing to 0.5% near 24 mm. Being parfocal, it keeps focus through the 100° zoom stroke, so a robot arm can move while the zoom rides.

Liquids belong in the brief. The lens carries an IP57 rating, its front section can go about 28 cm under water, and a hydrophobic anti-fog coating sheds droplets; DZOFilm tests operation from −30 °C to 70 °C. Take the protective UV filter off before a dunk; its velvet lining is not waterproof. The ten-blade iris spans T8–T45 over 72°, all three rings carry 0.8 MOD gears, and the rear-heavy aluminium body keeps weight near the camera. A Y-shaped support and fitted case are included. The short rear end accepts LPL, E or RF adapters and speed boosters; on an ALEXA 35 in Open Gate the range behaves like 22–35 mm. Food, beverage, cosmetics and nature crews get both angles from one full-frame macro probe lens.
