FieldCast 2Core MM Ultra Light 200m on Drum Fiber Cable

A two-hundred-metre drum exists so that the middle of a cable run holds nothing at all. No coupler on a stairwell landing, no mated pair across a doorway, no junction to remember to keep off the floor. The FieldCast 2Core MM Ultra Light 200m reaches a camera position at the far end of a building in one continuous piece, and the only optical interfaces in the whole link are the two a technician plugs in by hand.

Under the sheath run two cores of protected fibre in multimode 50/125 OM3: laser-optimised glass, and the grade broadcast fibre gear is specified around for in-house distances. Both ends leave the factory fitted with a male FieldCast 2Core MM connector, the same part on each, and nothing else is terminated onto this cable. A screw cap closes over each optical face for storage, and cap, plug and receptacle are sealed to IP67 in accordance with EN 60529 — sealing that belongs to the connector, not to the jacket behind it.

Ultra Light is the indoor member of the 2Core multimode family. Where the tactical grade is built to be dragged over gravel and driven across, this sheath is meant for studio flooring, cable trays and door thresholds, and it asks less of the arms on a long pull. Two hundred metres wind onto a Schill GT310 drum, the smaller of the range's two drum bodies. That suits a hotel ballroom running a corporate general session, production office along the service corridor; a concert hall balcony position dropping to a recording room two levels below; or a card tournament whose gallery sits behind the casino floor.

Two cores make one link — a send and a return between a converter at the camera and its partner in the gallery. No spare core is held back, so a damaged span is answered by swapping drums, and at well under half the price of the tactical version a spare is affordable insurance. Around it sits the rest of the 2Core multimode line: a short coupler cable, female at each end, for routes one drum does not quite reach; a two-metre adapter cable ending in LC for gear with LC ports; and a D-size chassis connector for a 19-inch panel or flight case. Blackmagic Studio Converter, Camera Converter and Studio Camera are reached through matching adapters.
