FieldCast 2Core MM Ultra Light 100m on Drum Fiber Cable

Wherever an audience walks, a cable on the floor stops being a technical matter and turns into a question for the venue's safety officer. The FieldCast 2Core MM Ultra Light 100m keeps that conversation brief. Its slim indoor sheath lies flat beneath one strip of gaffer tape or drops into the narrow channel of a cable protector, so a crossing through a crowded lobby or a conference aisle stays low, neat and easy to sign off.

Inside that sheath, two protected fibres of the OM3 50/125 multimode class travel side by side, identified by the two blue rings FieldCast reserves for its 2Core multimode parts. The terminations mirror each other: one male FieldCast connector of the 2Core MM type at either end, with nothing else fitted along the cable. Each optical face hides behind a threaded cap, and plug, cap and receptacle reach IP67 as defined by EN 60529. An end parked on the floor between rehearsals therefore picks up neither dust nor spilled water.

Physics is on the crew's side at this length. A hundred metres of glass delays the signal by about half a microsecond, a small fraction of one line of HD video, so genlock and lip-sync stay untouched. The two cores make one bidirectional link: a camera feed going out and a programme return coming back, or two multimode SFP ports carrying 10 Gigabit Ethernet between a stage rack and a switch. The drum is a Schill GT310, and the Ultra Light grade suits the controlled interiors FieldCast has in mind: film sets, studio floors, any hall kept clean underfoot.

Picture a graduation ceremony in a university great hall, vision-mixed from a seminar room across the corridor, a staff town hall streamed live from a company canteen, or an indoor bouldering final whose gallery sits on the café mezzanine. Where the route runs past a hundred metres, a half-metre coupler with female ends joins a second drum. LC-fitted multimode gear, from SFP switches to fibre SDI converters, connects through the two-metre adapter cable, or through a D-size chassis connector screwed into a 19-inch panel with a short LC tail behind it. Each of those jobs has a public walkway somewhere between camera and gallery, and this drum crosses it quietly.
