Multimode optics cost a fraction of their single mode equivalents, and over one hundred metres they give up nothing in return. That is the case for the FieldCast 4Core MM Heavy Duty 100m, a drum carrying four cores of protected multimode 50/125 OM3 fibre. Multimode is bounded by modal dispersion rather than attenuation, and published OM3 figures put the ceiling near 300 m for ten-gigabit class optics, tightening as the line rate climbs. At one hundred metres, every rate a broadcast SFP is likely to run still has margin.

Heavy Duty describes the sheath — the tactical grade of the range, tolerant of gravel, wheel crossings and being put away damp. Both ends terminate in an identical male FieldCast 4Core MM connector on Rosenberger OSI hardware, so a run can start from whichever end reaches the position first. A screw cap closes over the ferrules between patches, and cap, plug and receptacle are sealed to IP67 per EN 60529: a connector that spent the afternoon in standing water still mates cleanly at transmission time. Four blue rings mark the cable as multimode; single mode members of the family wear yellow.

Four fibres keep the line from being committed to one job. A camera feed and its return can occupy one pair while camera control, intercom or a gigabit data path runs on the other, with nothing at the far end needing multiplexing first. That covers a pit-lane position feeding a compound behind the paddock, an AGM in a hotel ballroom whose gallery sits in a breakout room along the corridor, or a post house pushing picture and KVM from the machine room up to a grading suite on the floor above.

The hundred metres arrive on a Schill GT380 drum, a footprint that takes a shelf rather than a pallet. Should a venue prove longer than the survey said, the 4Core MM coupler cable puts two drums end to end without a splice, reaching 200 or 300 m from existing stock. The adapter cable fans the four cores out to two LC duplex pairs for converters and SFP cages, while the D-size chassis connector fixes the same interface into a 19-inch panel or a flight case lid. Ultra Light is the thin indoor grade of this four-core multimode cable; Heavy Duty is the one that goes outdoors.
