Four fibres inside one jacket give a crew two independent duplex paths, and that is the practical value of the FieldCast 4Core MM Heavy Duty 200m. One run sends a camera feed out and brings a return back, while the second pair carries something unrelated: Ethernet to a distant position, intercom, or a multiviewer feed. The cores are multimode 50/125 OM3, and the four blue rings on every connector tell a technician in poor light exactly what is in hand — four cores, multimode, not to be cross-patched with yellow-ringed single-mode stock.

Both ends carry the same male FieldCast connector, so the drum has no wrong end. The heavy-duty sheath is tactical cable of the kind first specified for military field use, and it takes the punishment that follows: foot traffic, vehicles crossing a matting run, dragging over concrete. Screw caps close the ferrules between jobs, and cap, plug and receptacle are sealed to IP67 under EN 60529, keeping dust and driven rain away from the optical path on an open compound.

The 200 metres come wound on a Schill GT380 drum, which makes deployment and recovery a one-person task. Length is not fixed either: a 4Core coupler cable joins two main cables end to end, so 400 or 600 metres becomes a question of stock rather than a re-cable. At the equipment end, 4Core MM adapter cables break the four cores out to two LC duplex pairs, and chassis connectors put the same interface into a 19-inch panel or flight case lid — either way keeping the fragile LC port on a converter out of the firing line.

Multimode earns its place at venue scale. 850 nm optics cost a fraction of single-mode transceivers, and OM3 holds roughly 300 metres at 3G-SDI, with 12G-class links wanting shorter hops — worth calculating before a UHD job is scheduled. On HD and 3G work the full length is comfortable: camera positions back to an OB truck, front of house to stage across a festival site, a marathon finish gantry to the production compound, a gallery feeding a video wall two floors up. Fewer runs on the schematic means fewer labels, fewer coils and less derig time, which is where the FieldCast 4Core MM Heavy Duty 200m pays for itself across a season.
