Signal standards move faster than cable budgets, and that gap is where the FieldCast 4Core SM Heavy Duty 200m pays for itself. Four cores of protected fibre in single mode 9/125 treat 3G, 6G and 12G-SDI alike, so a drum bought for an HD multicamera build keeps its place in the truck once the same crew starts shooting UHD. The glass never sets the ceiling — the optics at each end do, and those are the parts you change.

Both ends terminate in the same male FieldCast 4Core connector, so the runner walking the drum out grabs whichever end is nearer the truck. Four yellow rings identify the cable as single mode at a glance, which counts for something in a dark equipment bay during a pre-dawn rig. A screw cap closes each interface against dust and spray water, with cap, plug and receptacle sealed to IP67 under EN 60529 — that is what keeps a fibre connection reliable across a wet load-in on gravel or grass. All 200 metres come on a Schill GT380 drum that one person can walk out and rewind.

Split the cores and you have two full duplex paths, or one video route plus a return feed and a spare pair for camera control, intercom or KVM back to an edit suite. The 2 m adapter cable breaks the cores out to two LC Duplex pairs for converters, routers and switches, while the D-size chassis connector sets the same interface into a 19-inch panel or a flight-case lid with a short LC Duplex fanout behind it. A 0.5 m coupler cable joins drum to drum, carrying a run to 400 or 600 metres with no active kit in the middle.

Distances that would rule out copper or multimode become routine: a golf course with the compound behind the clubhouse, a motorsport paddock feeding the media centre, a regatta strung along a lake, a convention hall sending remote production back to a permanent gallery. Venues already patched for Neutrik opticalCON QUAD meet the system through the matching FieldCast adapter, and single mode costs less per drum than the multimode version of the same tactical cable — the money moves to the transceivers, where it buys reach you can plan around.
