Fibre capacity on a live site is rarely as generous as the camera plan demands. The FieldCast Mux + Demux Two 12G answers that shortage with a matched pair of 1U aluminium boxes: a multiplexer that folds eight independent 12G-SDI channels onto one 9/125 single-mode fibre core, and a demultiplexer that unpicks them at the far end. Each channel carries up to 11.88 Gb/s, so 2160p60 material travels uncompressed — what enters the BNC at the camera leaves the BNC in the gallery bit for bit.
A proprietary hybrid WDM scheme holds dispersion very low across all wavelengths, which keeps the rated span beyond 10 km and lets the pair reach roughly 20 km on 12G-SDI, or 40 km once the format steps down to 3G-SDI. Since everything rides a single core, one simplex tactical cable links the mux at the camera end to the demux at the control room; pull a two-core drum instead and the spare core stays free for a mirrored pair and a redundant path. Both units terminate in LC (UPC) connectors: a COM channel for the live link, a UPG channel for cascading further capacity.
Monitoring is covered at both ends. Every SDI input on the mux carries a reclocked loop-through on 75 Ω BNC, so an engineer taps a feed locally without adding a distribution amplifier, while each output on the demux is doubled — one run to the switcher, one to a multiviewer or QC display. Front panels stay readable in a dark truck: warm-white LEDs report AC presence, power, module activity and channel-by-channel signal detection, so fault-finding on a long fibre run becomes a glance rather than a cable swap. Draw stays under 40 W per unit from a 110–240 VAC PowerCon inlet.
Compliance with SMPTE 259M, 344M, 292M, 424M and ST 2081/ST 2082 lets mixed-format sources sit side by side, from legacy SD through HD to 2160p60. Stadium coverage, multi-camera studio links, festival sites where the OB truck parks hundreds of metres from the stage, remote production sending feeds to a central gallery — these are the jobs the pair was built around. The standard configuration runs unidirectional, eight in to eight out; bidirectional splits are available to order where return vision is part of the brief.

8 channels of 12G SDI video over one fiber optic channel
Mux Two 12G and its twin brother Demux Two 12G allow you to transport eight independent channels of 12G SDI video over just one fiber optic channel.
Is your infrastructure such that you have limited access to individual fiber optic connections? Mux Two and Demux Two can help you run multiple video channels without needing separate cables.
Or else, do you want to roll out a minimum number of cables in live event environments? Just use Mux Two and Demux Two, multiplex up to eight channels of video, and get all data from A to B using only one strand of fiber!
No hidden processing involved! All 12G video signals preserve full data integrity! What goes in comes out, unchanged.
Features
Transport over long distance
The mux/demux pair can transport video over distances of up to 20 km/12 mi for 12G SDI and up to 40 km/24 mi for 3G SDI. The mux is typically placed at the camera side, and the demux at the control room side.
8 independent video channels with loop-through and dual output
The set supports 8 independent SDI video channels. The SDI inputs have a reclocked loop-through. The SDI outputs are dual. Hence, monitoring on both sides (input and output) is possible. The SDI input is typically connected to the camera’s SDI output. The SDI output is generally connected to the SDI input of a monitor or switcher.
Transport over one fiber optic core
All information for up to 8 SDI video channels, back and forth, runs over a single fiber optic core. This means a simplex fiber-optic cable is sufficient to bridge the distance between mux and demux, saving on fiber-optic cable costs. Alternatively, if you have a fiber optic cable with 2 cores, you have 1 core (or channel) left for other fiber optic transport. You might, for example, use the free fiber optic core to connect to a second, similar Mux/Demux pair to add redundancy to your setup.
No compression
There is no signal processing involved, so there is no compression; full data integrity is guaranteed.
Unidirectional video by default
The standard model is unidirectional, meaning that 8 SDI signals go from mux to demux; it’s denoted as 8i/o, where ‘i’ stands for input and ‘o’ stands for output.
