The Magewell Pro Capture HDMI 4K is a single-channel PCIe Gen2 x4 capture card that brings 4K HDMI signals into a production workstation through a 297 MHz receiver with adaptive equalization. It accepts resolutions up to 4096×2160 at 30 fps, covering DCI 4K and UHD output from cameras, media servers, PTZ heads, or graphics generators. At 1080p and below, capture rates reach 144 fps — enough for high-frame-rate sports analysis or slow-motion replay.
Colour handling covers 8-bit RGB/YUV 4:4:4 at the full 297 MHz pixel clock, 12-bit YUV 4:2:2 at that same rate, and 10/12-bit RGB/YUV 4:4:4 up to 170 MHz. Two on-board processing engines each deliver roughly 360 Mpixels/s, taking care of deinterlacing, colour space conversion, scaling, cropping, aspect ratio adjustment, frame rate conversion, and real-time OSD compositing — all in hardware. Latency sits at roughly 64 video lines, under one millisecond for 1080p60 RGB or YUY2, and a 100 ns hardware timestamp clock locks audio and video tightly during live event switching or multi-source recording.
The card extracts embedded HDMI audio alongside video timing data, 3D format metadata, and Sony/Canon DSLR timecode, simplifying camera integration for ENG teams and documentary shoots. A customisable EDID gives operators control over what the source delivers, forcing a specific resolution or refresh rate from any connected device.
On the software side, the Magewell Pro Capture HDMI 4K runs on Windows, Linux, and macOS through DirectShow, V4L2, and native platform drivers. OBS, vMix, Wirecast, XSplit, and VLC detect it without extra setup. The MWCapture SDK opens lower-level access for bespoke ingest tools. A rotary switch numbers each card for multi-board installations, and every board generates over 50 independent output streams with individual resolution, frame rate, and colour parameters — fitting naturally into broadcast control rooms, lecture capture rigs, telemedicine stations, and digital signage systems.
