A 35mm cinema prime often becomes the lens between a wide establishing view and a natural human perspective. The DZOFilm Vespid Prime 35mm T2.1 PL Mount (VV/FF) occupies that position with a full-frame/VistaVision image circle and a constant T2.1 transmission, giving cinematographers a usable field of view for dialogue, branded films, documentary coverage, car interiors, gimbal moves and compact A-camera builds. On VV/FF sensors it keeps the scene open without the exaggerated geometry of wider glass; on Super 35 cameras it delivers a tighter angle for interviews and inserts.

The optical layout uses 11 elements in 9 groups, with the Vespid series’ apochromatic approach helping to suppress colour fringing around contrast edges. Skin tones, metal highlights and LED-lit production spaces keep a controlled rendering, useful for commercials, corporate films and narrative work. The 16-blade iris supports rounded highlights and smooth background separation, so the lens can hold faces, product details or foreground texture at T2.1 without giving the frame a harsh still-photo character.

Mechanical control is firmly cine-oriented. The 270° focus rotation gives an operator or 1st AC enough travel for repeatable pulls, while the manual iris ring rotates through 63° for measured exposure changes. Standard 0.8 MOD gears on focus and iris integrate with follow focus units, lens motors and FIZ systems; shared gear positions across the Vespid family reduce accessory resets during lens swaps on set. Close focus reaches 0.3 m from the sensor plane, useful for tabletop details, compact interiors and cutaway shots without changing to macro glass.

The PL mount places this lens in familiar territory for cinema cameras from ARRI, RED, Sony, Canon and Blackmagic PL ecosystems. An M77 front filter thread and rear filter option support ND or diffusion choices without forcing every setup into a matte box, which helps on handheld, crane, slider and stabilised rigs. The aluminium alloy housing, manual operation and lack of electronic dependency make the DZOFilm Vespid Prime 35mm T2.1 PL Mount (VV/FF) a practical choice for productions that need repeatable lens behaviour, coherent series matching and a 35mm focal length ready for controlled sets and fast location work.
