FieldCast 2Core SM Ultra Light 200m on Drum Fiber Cable

One cable name keeps turning up in FieldCast's adapter catalogue: the 2Core Single Mode. Adapter One for a Blackmagic camera converter, Adapter One Plus with its XLR power inlet, Adapter Two for the Blackmagic Studio Camera, Adapter Three for older opticalCON DUO cables, and Panel One, taking up to four runs into an ATEM Studio Converter, all expect it on the far side. The FieldCast 2Core SM Ultra Light 200m is the indoor build of that fibre optic cable.

A slim sheath holds a pair of protected strands, both single mode 9/125, marked by two yellow rings. Each end carries an identical male FieldCast 2Core SM connector, the only terminations fitted; LC comes in solely via the accessories. Between jobs a threaded cap guards each optical face from dust and splashes, and the connector system is rated IP67 to EN 60529. FieldCast aims the Ultra Light grade at controlled spaces such as studios and film sets, where a lighter line and smaller drum outweigh a tactical skin. All 200 metres travel wound onto a Schill GT310.

Measured in signals, two cores go a long way. Every FieldCast Mux/Demux pushes its entire load through a single core, up to sixteen SDI feeds on the Three models, with Ethernet added on the Plus versions. Put one pair on each core and this drum carries thirty-two SDI signals, or one multiplexed trunk plus a core left free for a network link. The multiplexers, FieldCast's 1310 nm video SFPs and the Blackmagic hardware behind the adapters all work in single mode, so nothing needs converting and there is no second glass type to stock.

Three short accessories complete the kit. A 50 cm coupler links a second drum once a route outgrows 200 metres, a 2 m adapter lead finishes in LC for any SFP cage, and a chassis connector for a standard D cut-out puts the link on a rack panel or flight case, LC tails behind. Typical jobs: a live segment from an aquarium's underwater tunnel with the gallery in a staff corridor, a drama on a sound stage feeding vision control next door and a garden show from a botanical glasshouse, cut in its visitor centre. For a production house, one drum answers the camera converter, the multiplexer and the older opticalCON stock alike.
