FieldCast 4Core SM Ultra Light 100m on Drum Fiber Cable

Distance inside a building is never the distance on the floor plan. A run climbs a riser, follows a ceiling void, turns two corners of a corridor and drops down a service shaft, and a hundred metres are spent long before the cable has crossed anything that looks far. The FieldCast 4Core SM Ultra Light 100m is cut for that geometry, and Ultra Light is the indoor grade of the family — the tactical jacket stays with the Heavy Duty drums that work outside.

Four cores of protected fibre run inside the sheath, every one of them single mode 9/125, and four yellow rings identify the assembly so a shelf of mixed FieldCast drums can be read without turning a label to the light. Those cores work as two duplex pairs, and the pairs need not finish in the same equipment: through the 4Core SM adapter cable, or a chassis connector fitted into a panel, one pair can serve a camera chain while the second carries a network or KVM trunk. Two productions sharing a riser can take a pair each.

Each end is terminated with a male FieldCast 4Core SM connector, and no other connector type appears anywhere on the cable. A screw cap closes over the optical faces, with cap, plug and receptacle sealed to IP67 under EN 60529. Indoors that seal does quieter work than it does in the rain — it keeps construction dust and carpet fibre off polished glass between patches, so a drum can come out of a store after a month and still mate clean. Crews put the length to work on a shopping-centre atrium stage patched back to a control position behind a retail unit, or on a concourse broadcast landing in a station's own equipment room.

Delivery is on a Schill GT310 drum: a generous winding core, a built-in brake, a handle clear of the body, and solid rubber that shrugs off oil and solvent. The 4Core SM accessory line settles what happens at the outlet — a coupler cable extends a route longer than the survey suggested, an adapter cable brings the four cores out to two LC Duplex pairs, and the D-size chassis connector seats the same cable in a 19-inch panel or a flight case.
