A nine-micrometre core is one of the few things a broadcast video transceiver and an ordinary datacom SFP agree on. That agreement is what the FieldCast 4Core SM Ultra Light 200m trades on: four individually protected cores of single mode 9/125 fibre, splitting into two duplex paths that are each free to land on whatever optics their end of the job requires.

One pair can carry a camera and its return while the second takes camera control, intercom or a network trunk, and neither has to be planned around the other. Ultra Light describes the jacket rather than the interface: a 4.8 mm sheath, light enough for one person on a stairwell and small enough for a rack shelf, with the ends unchanged from the tactical drums — a male FieldCast 4Core SM connector on both sides, the same part at each end, and no other connector type on the cable.

A threaded cap closes over the end faces between jobs, and cap, plug and receptacle are sealed to IP67 under EN 60529, which counts for more indoors than the grade name suggests, since a set build, a spilled crate of water and a loading bay in the rain all reach a studio drum. Two hundred metres barely registers in a single mode loss budget, so the length is bought for routing rather than reach, and the ceiling sits in the transceivers rather than in the glass. Four yellow rings mark the cable as single mode, which keeps it out of multimode optics in a half-lit truck.

It suits a flash studio on an upper floor patched back to the central apparatus room, a conference build whose production room is a back-of-house office two floors down, or a museum gallery hosting a live event, patched to a control position in the service corridor. The 200 m ships on a Schill GT310 drum with a carrying handle and a locking brake, so pay-out and rewind stay a one-operator job, and the rest of the 4Core single mode line picks up from there: a half-metre coupler, female at both ends, for running two drums as one length; a two-metre adapter cable bringing the four cores out to two LC Duplex pairs; a D-size chassis connector for a 19-inch panel or flight case. A run left in a riser after the truck has gone is not the part of a facility that dates first.
