Carrying a 4K60 SDI signal across a broadcast campus, between studio buildings, or from a concert stage to an OB truck hundreds of metres away —...
Whatever voltage survives a hundred metres of copper, the camera behind a FieldCast PTZ Monk sees the same regulated 12 V. DC arrives from a Fiber Dock One or Fiber Node One on the copper pair of a single 2Core SM Hybrid line. The Monk accepts anything from 14 to 38 V at its input and turns it into 12 V DC at up to 60 W on a 4-pin XLR. Cable length never shows up in the camera's supply, and no socket or adapter is needed at the position.
Three connectors face the head: a BNC, an RJ-45 and that XLR. Pictures leave the camera on the 75-ohm BNC and travel as uncompressed 3G-SDI over single mode 9/125 glass, up to 100 m to the hub. Compliance with SMPTE 259M, 292M, 344M and 424M covers every SD and HD standard up to 1080p60, embedded audio included. Nothing rescales the signal, so set the camera to the switcher's format.
Control rides on a built-in Gigabit Ethernet media converter that taps over fibre into the optical switch inside the Dock or Node. The PTZ camera plugged into its 1000Base-T port therefore sits on the same network as the controller, and IP control or any other traffic passes untouched. Up to four cameras share that switched network, so each needs its own address on the controller's subnet. Warm-white LEDs report the 12 V output, a valid SDI input, the local link and the fibre network: a rigger up a ladder can tell a camera-menu fault from a line fault before anyone calls the gallery.
The converter's all-aluminium body has a steel threaded insert in its base plate, so it screws onto the tripod, bracket or rig holding the camera. Two yellow and two red dots on the chassis connector mark fibre and power. A cricket sightscreen, the glass wall of a padel court or a zoo enclosure are typical PTZ positions, spots where running mains is slow, costly or not allowed. One Dock serves four Monks; pair a Fiber Node One with a Fiber Base One and the truck can park up to 2 km from the Node. Buy one per head, add more as the camera count grows.

The fiber converter that also powers your PTZ camera
PTZ Monk is a 3G SDI-to-fiber converter that also provides Ethernet over fiber and power output over fiber. While converting the video signal to fiber and transmitting and receiving the Ethernet control data over fiber, PTZ Monk also powers the camera over fiber. PTZ Monk is designed to connect the PTZ camera to a Fiber Dock or Fiber Node hub via FieldCast Hybrid main cable.
Where to place PTZ Monk in the setup?
Connect the SDI, Ethernet, and DC power port of the camera to the PTZ Monk on one side, and connect to the FieldCast Hybrid main cable on the other side to transport all signals over fiber to the Fiber Dock or Fiber Node control station.
Features
• Aluminum housing, to be placed near your PTZ camera.
• One FieldCast 2Core SM Hybrid Chassis Connector to connect easily to one FieldCast 2Core SM Hybrid main cable.
• One BNC SDI connector to connect to the SDI out of your PTZ camera.
• One RJ-45 Ethernet connector to connect to your PTZ camera.
• FieldCast color coding on the fiber connector for easy identification.
• Converts the SDI out of the camera to fiber.
• Converts Ethernet to fiber and vice versa.
• 1/4″-20 insert in bottom plate to attach to a pod or rig.
