Forty-five million pixels per frame buy one thing above all: room to change your mind in post. The Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K Camera KineMOUNT pulls 8192×5288 off a 36×24 mm full-frame CMOS in open gate 3:2, so a UHD deliverable still has room for a genuine reframe, a stabilisation margin or a clean VFX plate out of one take. Format sets the ceiling: 45 fps over the entire gate, 70 fps at 8K 2.4:1, 108 fps on a Super 35 5K 2.4:1 crop.

None of it needs an external recorder. 12-bit ProRes 4444 XQ and ProRes 4444 land as QuickTime files in the body, joined by 10-bit 422 HQ, 422 and LT, all in KineLOG3 so a colourist starts from a familiar curve. Two internal bays run KineMAG Nano NVMe M.2 drives, and a Nano carrier accepts off-the-shelf 2280 modules. KineOS 7.1's ProRes 4444 efficiency mode stretches a card roughly twice as far without surrendering latitude.

Exposure is handled without opening the matte box. The internal motorised full-spectrum e-ND travels from 0.6 to 2.1, two to seven stops, in stepless movement: an operator following a presenter from shade into hard sun keeps the T-stop intact. Sensitivity rests on two base ratings, 640 and 2560, each with its own span — 250 to 800 low, 800 to 16,000 high — and rated latitude passes 14 stops. A UV and IR-cut optical low-pass filter sits in the light path, shutter angle runs from 0.7° to 358°, and the short flange depth of the native KineMOUNT takes PL, LPL, active EF and passive E adapters.

Carbon fibre over aircraft aluminium accounts for the rigidity; the port panel absorbs what KineBACK-W once bolted on. Two 1.5G/3G-SDI outputs push picture and embedded metadata to a switcher or DIT station, while two dedicated video connectors drive a KineMON touchscreen and the viewfinder. Linear timecode runs in and out, a seven-pin SYNC port over RS232 holds several bodies in step, and audio arrives on two 48 V phantom XLR channels at 24-bit/48 kHz. Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 5 with internal H.264 encoding send a live feed to a stream or a remote approval room. Cooke /i lens metadata travels through to post, and the hybrid plate takes V-mount or BP-U cells, with D-Tap, RS and Lens outputs for motors and monitoring.

Kinefinity MAVO Edge 8K Camera KineMOUNT
