Magewell USB Capture SDI 4K Plus is a compact, bus-powered ingest interface that brings true DCI 4K workflows to any workstation, laptop or NUC...
Among the Magewell Pro Capture family, the Pro Capture Mini SDI stands out as the smallest card capable of ingesting a full SD/HD/3G-SDI signal into a host system. The board measures just 30 × 51 mm and connects through a Mini PCIe Gen2 x1 slot, making it a natural fit for embedded appliances, compact rack servers, and custom ingest machines. Two MMCX connectors on the board — each shipped with an MMCX-to-BNC adapter cable — provide one SDI input and one SDI loop-through, so the original signal continues to a monitor or downstream switcher while the card captures it.
The on-board FPGA handles all pixel-level work at 10-bit processing depth, covering SD, HD, 3Ga, 3Gb, 3Ga-DL, 3Gb-DS and 2K (2048 × 1080) formats. Colour sampling reaches RGB 4:4:4, YCbCr 4:4:4 and YCbCr 4:2:2 at up to 12-bit precision, while the integrated cable equaliser sustains reliable reception over approximately 330 m for SD-SDI, 190 m for HD-SDI and 150 m for 3G-SDI. Latency sits at just 64 video lines, a figure critical during live camera returns or real-time graphic overlays.
Up to 8 mono audio channels at 48 kHz are extracted from the embedded SDI stream alongside timecode and closed-caption data. A hardware 100 ns clock timestamps every frame, keeping lip-sync tight when several cards run in parallel. Each input generates unlimited simultaneous capture streams with independent resolution, frame rate and colour settings — one card can feed an OBS recording, a vMix programme output and a Wirecast stream at the same time.
Driver packages cover Windows, Linux and macOS (including ARM), exposing the card through DirectShow, DirectKS, V4L2, ALSA, AVCaptureSession and AudioUnit. In daily use, the Magewell Pro Capture Mini SDI serves roles from multi-camera church streaming and lecture-hall recording to surgical-theatre capture, signage ingest and television playout — certified for continuous 24/7 operation with a two-year warranty.
