Magewell USB Capture SDI 4K Pro is a compact external interface for crews that need to bring a 12G-SDI signal into a laptop or workstation without adding a PCIe card. It accepts one SDI feed with embedded audio and passes the same signal to a local monitor or production chain through loop-through. In practice, this suits flypacks, control rooms, conference capture, lecture recording, esports desks, medical imaging review and on-set reference ingest.

This model supports input and loop-through up to 4096x2160 at 60 fps in 10-bit YUV 4:2:2. Magewell also specifies capture formats up to 4K and frame rates up to 240 fps, but the real limit depends on host bandwidth and operating system. A Windows or Linux system with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 can go much further than a host restricted to 10 Gbps or 5 Gbps, while macOS does not expose 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2. That makes the unit useful both for 4K camera ingest and for high-frame-rate HD acquisition when the computer can sustain it.

Audio handling is equally practical. The device can capture embedded SDI audio, accept external sound through 3.5 mm Line In and extract SDI audio to Line Out for monitoring or downstream recording. Magewell lists support for up to 8 channels of 24-bit embedded SDI audio at 192 kHz, while analog input follows a 2-channel IEC60958 stream. FPGA-based processing keeps CPU load low and helps maintain stable capture during long sessions.
