Rack space in live production and broadcast rigs is rarely abundant. The Netgear M4250-10G2F-PoE+ (GSM4212P) is a 12-port AV Line managed switch in a compact 1U chassis with every port on the rear — keeping rack cable paths straight and predictable rather than looping back to the front. Eight ports carry IEEE 802.3at PoE+, each rated at 30W against a shared 125W PoE budget, which simultaneously covers PTZ cameras, IP intercoms, PoE access points, and AV endpoints. Two 1GbE RJ45 uplinks and two 1G SFP slots handle fiber or copper connections to the wider network. Underneath, a 24 Gbps non-blocking switching fabric with a 16K MAC table and 12 KB jumbo frame support holds headroom for multiple concurrent 1G AV over IP streams.

Multicast is where the M4250 separates itself: NETGEAR IGMP Plus™ automates group tracking across all linked M4250 units and works natively with M4300/M4500 gear in star topologies — no manual per-port IGMP setup for standard deployments. The GSM4212P-100EUS ships with preconfigured port profiles for NDI, NDI4, NDI5, SDVoE, Dante, Q-SYS, AES67, SVSI, Atlona, Kramer KDS, ZeeVee, and Aurora Multimedia. A freshly racked unit can have an NDI source feeding a production switcher, or a Dante network live, within minutes. IEEE 1588 PTPv2 Transparent Clock (1-step, E2E) synchronizes audio and video to nanosecond accuracy — a requirement when mixed-protocol AV sources share the same fabric.

Layer 3 capability means it can act as a standalone AV network: static routing, RIP, and PIM-SM/DM/SSM multicast routing run alongside a built-in DHCP server, eliminating the need for a separate router on smaller productions. 802.1Q VLAN segmentation, RSTP/MSTP loop protection, and hardware ACLs at L2/L3/L4 provide the access control expected in a managed broadcast network. QoS across 8 hardware priority queues with 1 Kbps rate-limit granularity keeps video traffic prioritized under contention. In noise-critical spaces — recording studios, conference rooms, broadcast galleries — the fans switch off automatically below 25°C ambient with PoE load under 80W. Under full load at 25°C, measured acoustic output is just 27.38 dBA.
