The Magewell Pro Convert HDMI Plus module converts any HDMI source into a broadcast-grade NDI 6.2 stream, packaged as a hot-swappable card for the Modator 2U chassis. Ten modules fit in one 2 RU rack frame, so a multi-camera studio can run all its HDMI-to-NDI encoding from a single, centrally managed unit. Input resolution reaches 4096×2160 at 60 fps (4:2:0) or 30 fps (4:4:4), while an HDMI 1.4 loop-through mirrors the signal to a confidence monitor without extra distribution hardware — a welcome simplification on set or inside an OB truck.

Encoding tops out at 2048×2160 / 120 fps in 4:2:2 8-bit with a measured latency around 57 ms. Eight channels of HDMI-embedded audio carry over to the NDI output intact. Onboard processing covers deinterlacing, up/down-scaling, colour-space conversion across RGB and YUV (BT.601, BT.709), and aspect-ratio correction via anamorphic, crop, or letterbox modes. A configurable EDID lets the module request the exact format it needs from the source, avoiding handshake failures that surface during live shows.

Each card has its own Gigabit Ethernet port, allowing NDI traffic to be segmented onto dedicated switches — a tangible benefit when production and corporate networks must stay separate. An RS-232 serial connection handles PTZ camera control and tally relay, fitting naturally into robotic-camera rigs found in houses of worship, lecture halls, and TV studios. Setup runs through the Modator touchscreen, a browser GUI, or Magewell Control Hub for fleet-wide oversight; Crestron SIMPL+ modules plug the encoder into existing AV-over-IP control systems.

Power draw sits at just 6.2 W per card, and the Modator chassis supports redundant power supplies, keeping the system on air through a single-supply failure. Streams produced by the module work natively with OBS, vMix, Wirecast, and every other NDI-compatible application, giving crews a direct path from camera to switcher or cloud distribution — no proprietary lock-in.
