What sets the Canon CR-N500 Black Auto Tracking apart from the standard CR-N500 is one critical addition: a pre-installed full license for Canon's RA-AT001 Auto Tracking Application. Where the free Lite version limits you to auto-select with fixed sensitivity, this bundle unlocks manual subject selection, ten levels of tracking sensitivity, configurable target positioning anywhere in the frame, and up to five storable tracking profiles — features that matter the moment a production runs without a dedicated camera operator. Auto Framing modes such as Multi-Person Framing, Face Direction Framing, and Sit/Stand Framing handle composition automatically during conferences, lecture captures, or live panel broadcasts.

Underneath the tracking software sits broadcast-calibre hardware: a 1.0-type CMOS sensor with roughly 8.29 million effective pixels, paired with the DIGIC DV6 processor for native 4K UHD 30p and Full HD 60p output. The 15x optical zoom lens (f/2.8–4.5, 35mm equivalent 25.5–382.5 mm) opens to a 73° horizontal angle of view, and a built-in motorised ND filter across three densities allows precise depth-of-field control on set. Dual Pixel CMOS autofocus tracks faces reliably, while Canon Log 3 and Wide Dynamic Range gamma deliver 13 stops of latitude for post-production colour grading or direct-to-air use. Canon's colour science matches that of the Cinema EOS line, so mixing the CR-N500 with C300- or C70-series cameras in a multi-camera shoot requires minimal colour correction. The satin black finish blends discreetly into studio sets and stage rigs.

Connectivity covers 3G-SDI, full-size HDMI at 4K 4:2:2 10-bit, and IP streaming via NDI|HX2, SRT, RTSP/RTP, and RTMP/RTMPS — three simultaneous output paths from one camera. A single PoE+ Ethernet cable handles power, video, audio, tally, and control, keeping cable runs minimal during installations. Two balanced XLR inputs with 48V phantom power, a genlock BNC input for multi-camera sync, RS-422 serial, and Wi-Fi round out the interface panel. Canon's XC protocol ensures compatibility with the RC-IP100 and RC-IP1000 controllers — the latter managing up to 200 units across large-scale AV deployments.

    Powerful 4K imagery
The 1.0-type CMOS Sensor and DIGIC DV6 processor work in unison to deliver exceptional 4K UHD/30p image quality as well as upscaled Full HD/60p images thanks to over sampled HD processing.

    Smooth and precise control
The CR-N500 is equipped with a high-precision drive mechanism enabling fine adjustments of the Pan and Tilt movement and speed ensuring the perfect shot. Compatible with the RC-IP1000, the RC-SK5, the RC-IP100 controller and Remote Camera Control Application controllers, the CR-N500 is also compatible with selected third-party controllers.

Stabilised 15x Optical Zoom to get closer
Canon’s advanced 4K optics make sure greater detail is captured, and flexibility assured, with a 15x optical zoom (25.5-382.5mm 35mm equivalent), providing a wide angle to telephoto field of view. Canon’s advanced four-axis image stabilisation ensures high quality image capture.

IP Streaming and Control to transform your production
A comprehensive range of IP control and streaming protocols up to 4K UHD 30p (such as NDI|HX, RTMP, RTP/RTSP, RTMPS, SRT, FreeD and Canon’s XC Protocol) are included, making the CR-N500 an ideal solution for new or existing systems.

    Excellent imagery in low light
The CR-N500 produces high quality imagery with low noise, even with a minimum illumination of 1.5 lux. The large 1.0-type CMOS sensor and the DIGIC DV6 processor ensure the image quality retains its integrity even in the most challenging of lighting conditions.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF keeps it sharp
The CR-N500 features Canon’s renowned Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus system which provides extremely quick and accurate focus via multiple modes.

Extensive Connectors for ease of use
The CR-N500 features a host of connections to ensure the ultimate flexibility, including a 3G-SDI video output, full-sized HDMI port (supporting 4K UHD 30p at 4:2:2 10-bit), professional XLR audio inputs, as well as a PoE+ LAN port to allow for easy system integration.

HDR Imagery, with versatile image quality adjustments
Achieve stunning HDR imagery with Canon Log 3 and Wide Dynamic Range Support. Both technologies ensure the best HDR imagery can be achieved for applications where postproduction or a quick turnaround is required. The in-built image adjustment settings also ensure flexible and bespoke imagery to colour match with other cameras.

Upgrade your content with a new firmware update available August 2025
Download the latest firmware and take advantage of newly added Auto Tracking App RA-AT001* features. Auto Framing features include Multi-Person Framing, that detects and includes multiple people in the frame, while Face Direction Framing and Sit/Stand Framing deliver natural composition for a single person in frame. Additionally, RTMP/SRT auto reconnection and improved camera control from the iOS app is now included.

*Free Auto Tracking App RA-AT001(Lite) available via FW, 1.1.0 or later. A paid license is necessary for full functionality of auto tracking.
